Dr. Jacopo Berti received his Laurea with highest honors in Italian Literature at University of Florence in  1995. His thesis was dealing with the poetry and history of Niccolò Tommaseo, 19th century Italian poet. For this work, Dr. Berti received the Aldo Palazzeschi Award that is given each year to graduates of the Department of Literature and Philosophy of the University of Florence: recipients are chosen for their excellent work in the field of Italian literature.

Other than teaching for California State University Florence program, Dr. Berti also teaches for New York University in Florence, for the Centro di Cultura per Stranieri at the University of Florence, the Institute for Italian Studies Lorenzo de’ Medici and in the past at Santa Reparata International School of Art and at The Institute at Palazzo Rucellai. In 2004 he was an exchange professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, U.S.

Dr. Berti has published the following articles:

“Tommaseo e la Francia” in the journal “Antologia Viesseux”, a. XI, n. 33, settembre-dicembre 2005, published by Gabinetto Vieusseux.  This article discusses the relationship between Niccolò Tommaseo and the French authors in XIX century.

“Letture classiche e contemporanee di Niccolò Tommaseo”, «Studi Italiani», anno XV, fascicolo 2, luglio-dicembre 2003.  L’Università degli Studi di Firenze publishes this journal of articles concerning Italian literature and philosophy.

“Due omaggi per nozze di Niccolò Tommaseo” in the on-line journal “Nuovo Rinascimento” (2002), published by L’Università degli Studi di Firenze.  This article deals with the history and analysis of two rare editions of Niccolò Tommaseo.

“Libri, luoghi e persone nella formazione poetica di Niccolò Tommaseo” in the on-line journal “Nuovo Rinascimento” (2002), published by L’Università degli Studi di Firenze.  This article discusses the origins and the background of Niccolò Tommaseo’s poetry.

“Le prime edizioni delle raccolte di Tommaseo. Quadro sinottico”, «Studi Italiani» anno X, fascicolo 2, luglio-dicembre 1998.   

“Quadro sinottico delle prime edizioni delle raccolte poetiche di Niccolò Tommaseo” in the on-line journal “Nuovo Rinascimento” (1997), published by L’Università degli Studi di Firenze.  This article discusses the first editions of Niccolò Tommaseo’s collected poetry.

“Bibliografia analitica dei manoscritti e delle prime edizioni delle liriche di Niccolò Tommaseo” in the on-line journal “Nuovo Rinascimento” (1997), published by L’Università degli Studi di Firenze. This article is an analysis of the title page images of the first editions of Niccolò Tommaseo’s poetry including a bibliographic description of each work.

“Introduzione alla riproduzione della stampa litografica del 1837 del volume di poesie di Niccolò Tommaseo dal titolo Versi facili per la Gente difficile” in the on-line journal “Nuovo Rinascimento” (1997), published by L’Università degli Studi di Firenze.  This article concentrates on the analysis of a rare 1837 edition of Niccolò Tommaseo’s poetry titled “Versi facili per la Gente difficile”.

“La metrica di Niccolò Tommaseo” in the on-line journal “Nuovo Rinascimento” (1997), published by L’Università degli Studi di Firenze.  This article includes a metric description of every poem of Niccolò Tommaseo.
