Elena Baracani received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Florence in April 2006, and she is currently Post Doc Researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane in Florence, as winner of a research grant in the framework of the ‘European Foreign and Security Policy Studies’ program funded by the Compagnia di San Paolo, the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, and Volkswagen Stiftung. She has three main fields of specialization: democratization studies, EU studies, and conflict studies. She is also the tutor for the PhD Program in Political Science at the Istituto Italiano di Scienze Umane, and she has teaching experience in EU Politics and World Politics at Italian and American Universities. She has published a monograph in Italian (with Rubbettino, 2008) on the EU and democracy in Turkey, several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles and working papers in English on the EU as an actor in democratization and conflict settlement.
